Hand-crafted using unchanged methods since 1600, these fans are made by gluing washi over bamboo frames, then coated in fermented persimmon dye for durability and insect resistance. Illustrator Takuya Kawaguchi’s designs—featuring shooting stars and the cycle of life—add a storybook charm. Each fan comes with a tinkling bell said to ward off misfortune and invite good luck. Over time, the kakishibu develops a rich patina, making these fans an investment in style and comfort.
