中野駅北口タクシーロータリーの向こう。かなり昔からある。私が学生時代からあったように記憶しているので、確実に20年以上営業しているはず。テントは最近新しくしたようだ。

Just across the taxi stops on Nakano station north exit. If my memory is correct, Kasai was still there when I was student, so they are in business for more than 20 years. Their tents are new though.

■蕎麦　黒くて太い平打ちのいわゆる田舎蕎麦、モチモチしておいしい。
■つゆ　ダシよし、カエシやや濃い、少し甘い。蕎麦とバランスよい。
■かき揚げ　揚げ置き。コロモ厚い、春菊入りで香りよい。

■Soba: Country styled, dark colored thick & flat noodle. Very tasty and chewy.
■Soup: Good dashi(※2), little sweet, and rich kaeshi(※3). Great balance with soba.
■Kakiage: Already made, thick battered with crown daisy (edible). Nice smell.

モチモチの極太麺が癖になる。この太さは東京の立ち食いでは一番ではなかろうか。太いけどゴワゴワしていない。強烈に記憶に残る、また食べたくなる味。

Addictive chewy thick noodle. Maybe thickest noodle in Tokyo. Thick but not stiff. Makes you want to eat again. Lasts forever in your memory.

うどんを食べている人のほうが多いようです。生おろし生姜のビンがカウンターにあり、好みでスプーンですくって入れる。私は入れませんでしたが、人気の秘密のようです。

Udon(※4) is more popular than soba. There is fresh grated ginger in a jar, and you can put it in your noodles. I didn’t try the ginger, but this ginger is the secret of the popularity.

かさい

とても小さいお店。カウンターに並べるのは6人くらいでしょうか。ひっきりなしにお客さんが来店している。

Very small noodle stand, probably only 6 people can eat at once. You can see the customers coming non-stop.
